Ms. Tang stays true to her promise of presenting content in a relatable, conversational, and accessible style. She delivers formal information about and strategies for learning language in an informal manner, and numerous personal anecdotes enliven the reading. Many of the most vivid illustrations of the principles she discusses involve interactions with her son, Che.
I am not a parent, but I can understand why this book would be a valuable instructional tool for parents because of being written in plain, easily digestible language. I also am not a speech pathologist, but I can see how Ms. Tang’s book would be a valuable introduction to concepts that might often be mired in mystifying clinical jargon.
A memorable and informative read. Highly recommended.

Play Dumb and Sabotage is a GREAT book for new parents and early childhood educators! Jeaneen Tang has written a book that is informative and practical. The strategies she introduces and reviews are great for all emerging and early talkers. I especially appreciated her workbook style with space for the reader to jot down their own examples, allowing the information to immediately become personally applicable. As a social-emotional learning specialist, I would suggest that many of Jeaneen Tang's strategies will also support self-management, self-awareness, and relationship skills in the emerging talker. This quick and easy-to-read book is packed with information that will build skills and confidence in those supporting young children. I highly recommend Play Dumb and Sabotage!
